Updated Hemorrhoid Treatment: Creams, Fiber, Banding, Laser and Surgery

    Updated 2026-06-146 min read

Hemorrhoid treatment is individualised. Early stages emphasise diet and toilet habits; advanced stages may require office procedures, laser or surgery.

    First step: address constipation

Many symptoms relate to constipation, prolonged toilet time and straining. Fibre, hydration, regular movement and not delaying defecation form the foundation of treatment.

    When are creams enough?

Mild bleeding, itching or early-stage disease may respond to medical therapy and lifestyle changes. Larger or prolapsing hemorrhoids often need additional measures.

    Banding and office procedures

Rubber band ligation can suit selected internal hemorrhoids. Choice depends on stage, external component, pain and associated conditions.

    Laser and surgical options

Laser, energy devices and conventional surgery are selected based on examination findings — the goal is matching the right method to the right patient, not promoting a single technique.

    Conditions that mimic hemorrhoids

    • Anal fissure
    • Anal fistula or perianal abscess
    • Condyloma
    • Rectal prolapse
    • Inflammatory bowel disease
    • Colorectal tumours
